The Flaxmere Christian Fellowship sponsored a celebration of Israel’s existence in the Hastings City Centre marking 75 years as a nation state. With hip-hop dance, cultural songs, a special cake decorated in the Israeli flag, face-painting in blue and white and balloons for the kids, it was a festive occasion. A complimentary sausage sizzle went down really well as many passersby enjoyed the occasion too. Keynote speaker Ashley Church from Hawkes Bay gave a good rundown of Israel’s history from ancient times right through to the modern era. A highlight of the festivities was the flying of the Israeli flag from the flagstaff of the Hastings District Council municipal building in Lyndon Road.
